I *HEART* Madeline Weinrib.

I have a slight obsession with most things interior. Fabrics to be specific. I fall in love with a new fabric everyday. Usually found on an amazing blog or in a great magazine. Sadly not many make it into my home. I tend to fall for the $300/yard kind or the $3k 4x6 rug. WHAT?

If you knew what a bargain shopper I really turned into you'd giggle at the fact that I even LET myself fall in love with gorgeous fabrics. I have yet to purchase a duvet cover as none even COMPARE to what is in my nutty designer head.

One designer that hits the spot is Madeline Weinrib.

HOLY MOLY.
HEART.
HEART.
HEART.

If only she would design a line for Target. I'd pull hair and throw punches to get in line first.

Favorite Minted Art Prints

I have about 20+ designer girl-crushes @ Minted. Here are some of my fav. prints that I will have to agonize over about which to get.

frolic - nicciola design

globetrotter - ERAY

modern botanical - kelli hall

sea fever - linda and harriett

I would have put up several more ... but something is up with the wireless connection.
I feel like I'm dialing up like those turtles on the Comcast commercials.

Color Palette

I had to look that word up - PALETTE - as I trip over the spelling/versions All. The. Time.

Help me choose some COLORS! I am very excited to share a little art work that will soon be available on Minted.com. Minted recently had their first ever "Untitled: Art Print Challenge" and over 1400 pieces of amazing artwork were entered. All they asked was to create something that you would want on your wall. And so I did!

Hooray! My "special day pattern" was chosen.
I really need to be better at coming up with better names for my work.

Now I need to come up with some alternative color ways. Can you help me choose?
Let me know what your favorite 2 color ways are.
Pretty please.

The above are inspired by J.Crew. I have an obsession with their colors lately. I wish I had
won that giant lottery so that I could have spruced up my spring wardrobe.

These 2 are paintings that I like A.LOT. A.LOT. A.LOT.

And then the original.
Thank you for helping me pick!

Life.Moving.Fast.

Holy Moly! It's only the middle of January and I can't keep up with it.
Working on that constant challenge of balancing LIFE w/ WORK.
Have you seen these amazing mom's do it?
www.theglow.com

Warning - don't get sucked in! It's quite addicting and inspiring.

For Christmas I'd hoped for some little gift cards so that I could go get my make-up done. The fancy way. The way that you do when you're about to get married. I haven't done that since our wedding almost 7 years ago. A friend told me about a class taught by this fancy gal:

I loved it! She walked you thru how to put on the makeup yourself. While I need LOTS of practice it was totally fun. I spent those gift cards and then some but it was worth it! AANNDD it's made me try & make time for myself in the AM.  Let me re-phrase that - make an EFFORT.
HA HA HA HA HA

Oooohhhhhhhh and one last fun thing. This came in the mail last week:

I had a first generation nano that I only used for running or traveling. Apparently it was recalled. We sent it in and got THIS BAD BOY back! HOLY MOLY it's ah-mazing. It has a touch screen, radio, music, that crazy NIKE trainer app (luv) and a bunch of other stuff I don't know how to use. Yet. Mama's got her running partner back. ;)

And yes, I'm STILL reading the Steve Jobs book.

NEW CARD no.1

I can finally share with you some of the custom designs from the season!

(Front)

(Back)

This card just melts my heart. Have you ever seen such Christmas cuties? I like both sides so much I feel like either side could be the front or back.

My shopping is almost done. I just ordered up these shirts for the boys to wear on Christmas. Honey Bee T's are designed from a gal who went to AUBURN! (WAR EAGLE!) And she's got a great little blog that I like to stalk.  (www.flythroughourwindow.com) If you know the Munn family - these prints are made for us. I told Jeff they come in adult sizes if he feels left out. ;)

Adding to the Christmas book box. We got this guy and have already read it 10 times.
The Grinch is a big hit this year. As well as the Elf.

More cards to come! (I know you are on the edge of your seat...)

Aren't these paintings wonderful?

They are by Samantha French.

How to choose which one?

How to pick where they'd go in my house?

I just love them.

Inspiration No. 3

I am feeling overwhelmed. Not in a horrible way but in a I sure do wish there were a few more hours in each day. Wish I could get one more thing done. Wish I could do everything that I put down on my lists. Wish I could have the time to follow thru on every thought I had.

I know this one woman, who DOES IT!

On top of everything she does, she is doing things to make the world a better place.

I got an email from her this morning and read it top to bottom. Even though I had a million things to "do." And you know WHAT? It puts into perspective what's truly important. Read this an decide for yourself. It might make you feel a little luckier about bogged down day. It certainly changed my 'tude around.

To you my friends - yes you!

The other day, I found myself on one of those trail runs that accidentally fills your bucket. Nothing about the pace or the duration or the location should have made it that way. But as I scrolled through the usual suspects on my I-pod, a laundry list of meaningful ambitions and big plans surfaced - as they always seem to do when you're nowhere near pen and paper.

You know that space. Somewhere between the ever-loudening playlist and the auto-pilot of the feet, there lies dreams of doing more, writing more, traveling more, giving more, stopping to notice more, becoming more.

Like most things, however, the music eventually stops and the dirty socks come off.  And with it, the noise of the world welcomes itself back into those big plans. Like the documentary whose message is too-soon-forgotten, so too my list of grand things to do (and become) gets put on hold.

Eight weeks from today, I depart for Ethiopia and - there waiting - are the hundreds of kids who have stirred in my mind on all of those runs in the past six months. They are the boys and girls studying under a tree who have no idea how much they've inspired my community and I to be good humans.

You see - a school is waiting to be built in the remote rural community in the Kilte Awlaelo district of Tigray, Ethiopia.  Together with the others from myImagine1Day team, we're raising $100,000 to ensure that this happens - to ensure that there is clean water to drink, super cool books to read, chalkboards to fill with beautiful words, and resources to make sure their 3rd grade teacher will be as great as mine.

I could recount for you all the facts and figures about the power of educating a girl as the first step to changing the world, about the 90+ million people living in Ethiopia and the 3+ million kids without primary education.  But let's be honest, you are just as resourceful as you are busy. And you already know that the world is filled with needs and different versions of the same story of 'the least of the least.'

But here's where the story changes. The goals are not insurmountable. The possibilities are REAL. As real as your morning latte and the pint of beer I'll have at happy hour. These education goals are as real and POSSIBLE as the "to-become" lists we make when we are at our own best.

When I first joined the Imagine Ethiopia team, I signed a commitment to raise $7,500 as my contribution to building the school. I've used photography as a means to meet that goal - because it turns out, I'm not very good at asking for money. It seemed easier to put my nose to the proverbial grindstone than to make 'the ask.'  To date, with amazing help from family and friends, $9,765 has been raised in connection to my personal goal. This is all very humbling.

BUT the thing that had my mind reeling while running the other day is the reason I'm writing. Someday soon I'll find myself in complete awe of just how much we can learn from the little girl who has nothing. As I look into her rich brown Ethiopian eyes, I need to know we did everything we could to enrich her world in the ways she is enriching mine. I do not want this to be a singular experience for a few who saw benefit through photography or for my close family and friends who couldn't escape my incessant chatter about the project. ;)

When smiling eyes are at stake, the work is never over - unlimited potential awaits. I'm hoping you'll join me in reaching a new goal - because if I know anything about the people in my life, you are always always surprising me with your happy good human ways. I'm hoping all of our morning lattes stack up to $5000. possible? absolutely.

Can I take you with me? I'll be bringing my camera with me - and there's a photo I imagine taking that keeps coming to mind. It's one of a sea of happy kids running with effortless joy, with so little to hold on to but so much to be found. And in that moment, when I click the shutter, I want to take all of you with me. I want to be able to look through that lens and know that each of those happy footsteps is product of you and you and you and you and you...

And that we did everything we could. In big and small ways, we mattered.

Is all of this sounding too optimistic? I hope so. And I hope you'll join me. Let's be YES people.

I'm grateful in advance for your support - be it in pennies, dollars or in words of encouragement. I know that giving happens in big and small ways - it happens in $10 increments on random Tuesdays and in passing it along to others who might be interested. And if your credit card is in another room, know that there are so many smiling eyes that will thank you for making the extra effort ;)

Click HERE to make a contribution. (please know that 100% of your donation goes straight to the nitty gritty - we're talking building materials, chalkboards, pencils etc - not a cent to the personal cost of my trip and/or marketing/ admin. yay!)

Here's wishing for you the something that finds you, the something that moves you to beauty and keeps your feet running, and - to borrow words from the region - I wish for you a "year of milk and honey."

so.much.gratitude.

Katie

p.s. If you'd like a copy of that photo of the kids who run foot-loose and fancy-free because of you, please send me a note and i'll get it your way. you earned it ;)

p.p.s. Here are additional links on the project if ya fancy...

Inspiration No. 2

Heard a great story on NPR this morning about a great American painter that passed away recently.

CY TWOMBLY

I liked the story so much I had to log onto NPR to see if there were any photos. There wasn't so I googled and much to my surprise - LOVED the paintings.

Hope these make you smile, too.

Inspiration No. 1

I think I am going to start a weekly or, well, just whenever I find said inspiration post.

I really liked that BE AWESOME picture.

I saw this one today.

Found this @ www.designmom.com. She hauled her kids to France for a year.
All I did was get my kids to school with clothes on. We were late.

Borderline ridiculous

Thought this was funny... my current TO-DO list.

Didn't get TONS accomplished as Jeff was outta town sailing.
I hung out w/ these two goofballs.

We've had some great (and much needed) rain. They decided to
be prepared. Boots and all.

I am doing some dahlia research for a super dooper fun project.
Had no idea this is the official flower of Mexico.

If I had an extra 200 I'd buy this dress.

And these shoes.

But I don't. So I'll get working so that I can. Maybe. Not.

• Wrapping up one special wedding invite.
• Designing another special wedding invite.
• Working on a 4 & 40 party... stay tuned.
• Christmas cards
• Bday cards
• Can't forget the real job.

I could use about 24 more hours in the day. ;)
